News: 2 days agoColts head coach Shane Steichen said that Jones will remain the team's starting quarterback in Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.

Spin: Though the Colts have limped out to a disappointing 2-5 start to the season, Steichen reiterated that he has confidence in Jones, who signed a two-year, $88 million extension in March after his inaugural campaign in Indianapolis was cut short by a torn Achilles tendon. As expected, Jones hasn't provided much of an impact as a runner (21 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown) coming off major surgery, but his significant regression as a passer (59.6 percent completion rate, 4:7 TD:INT, 5.8 yards per attempt) has impeded the Indianapolis offense. While his contract should give Jones some level of security, another poor performance or two could compel the Colts to give 2023 first-round pick Anthony Richardson another look under center.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Jones re-signed with the Colts during the offseason and will return as the team's starter. The 2019 No. 6 draft pick made a big leap in 2025 -- his first season with Indianapolis -- finishing no lower than seventh in completion percentage and yards per attempt. Despite the strong play, Jones was inconsistent as a fantasy option, averaging 18.8 fantasy points during 12 full games and posting three top-five weeks but no additional finishes better than ninth. Jones was effective through the air and scored five rushing TDs, but he didn't run the ball as much as in years past and might do even less of that in 2026 after tearing an Achilles in Week 14. He's likely to be ready for Week 1, but effectiveness is a concern, so he's best viewed as a midrange QB2.
