News: 5 hours agoPenix completed 25 of 34 passes for 213 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions and added five carries for minus-1 yard in the Falcons' 29-20 win over the 49ers on Sunday. He also recovered a fumble.
Spin: Penix put together a solid, mistake-free effort that saw him toss a trio of touchdown passes for the second straight game. The 2024 first-round pick connected with Nick Muse (one yard), Kyle Pitts (five yards) and Drake London (21 yards) for his trio of scoring strikes, the latter two coming in the second half. Penix also completed over 71.0 percent of his passes for the third time in five games this season, and he'll take an excellent 9:1 TD:INT and 1,157 passing yards into a Week 8 road matchup against the Buccaneers next Sunday.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Penix is no longer guaranteed a starting job entering his third season. The 2024 first-round pick has appeared in 14 games and has 14 total touchdowns, a 21% off-target rate and a 60% completion percentage to show for it. Penix has done well to avoid turnovers (six career INTs), but he's a nonfactor with his legs (career 28-81-2 rushing) and failed to post a single fantasy outing better than 10th last season. Penix tore an ACL in Week 11, which further complicates his path to beating out newcomer Tua Tagovailoa for the team's Week 1 starting gig. The 26-year-old might eventually emerge into a fine NFL starter, but even if he does, his lack of rushing will limit his fantasy output. He's well off the fantasy radar.
