Sunderland claimed their first win of the season as they edged out Fulham 1-0 thanks to Wilson Isidor's goal, just days after he signed a new contract with the Black Cats.

Commentary

The full-time whistle goes, and Sunderland bag their first victory of the new season with a 1-0 win over Fulham. Isidor rose from the substitutes' bench to seal the three points for his side as he tapped home from Diarra's cross in the 75th minute against a Fulham side who lacked imagination in the final third. The visitors failed to record a single shot on target at the Stadium of Light, meaning the Londoners have now suffered consecutive defeats in their first two Premier League games under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa. Isidor could easily have put Sunderland a goal up earlier in the half when his right-footed effort struck the post in the 71st minute, but he maintained his composure to fire home just four minutes later. Sunderland recorded 1.75 xG in total, compared to Fulham's 1.02, and the hosts now look to a trip to Brentford in six days. Meanwhile, Fulham prepare to host Crystal Palace on the same day.
