Southern Miss has named Illinois/Northern Illinois transfer Ethan Hampton the starting quarterback, per ESPN sources, and he’ll debut for them against Alcorn State. (Southern Miss travels to Auburn Sept. 12.) Hampton started 10 games at Northern Illinois back in 2024, including the program’s upset of Notre Dame.
Hampton has 2,595 career passing yards and 21 career touchdown passes. He played four games as a back-up at Illinois last year.
