News: 2 days agoLynn fired six scoreless innings in Tuesday's intrasquad game. He gave up two hits and no walks while striking out eight, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Spin: Lynn was initially scheduled to throw five innings in Tuesday's intrasquad matchup. However, he was efficient over the first five frames by throwing just 70 pitches, so he was able to get an extra inning of work in. The Rangers' Opening Day starter reportedly threw eight strikeouts while only allowing two batters to reach base in his solid performance.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Many might be asking, "Where did that come from?" Lynn's 28.1% strikeout and 4.17 K/BB rates in 2019 easily set new professional single-year bests (minimum 150 batters faced), but there were obvious causes behind it -- ones that bode well for a potential repeat. He shifted some of his previous reliance upon his sinker into more four-seam fastballs, and his 94.8 mph average with the pitch was the highest in his big league career. With it, his fly ball rate rose to nearly 40% (a big-league-career high) and his swinging-strike rate soared. Lynn is a great example of the need to forget the past while relying on the more recent results. The 2020 edition of Lynn is a top-40 fantasy SP candidate.
