News: 2 days agoMarte (undisclosed) returned to the Diamondbacks' camp Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Spin: Marte had missed the past four days of on-field workouts for an undisclosed reason, but he was cleared to rejoin the team Friday. It's unclear whether his absence will impact his preparations for Opening Day, but the team hopes that he'll be able to participate in intrasquad games over the weekend.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: With the move from Pittsburgh's PNC Park to Arizona's Chase Field, Marte's power bump of 2018-19, hitting 20-plus home runs in each, now seems locked in as an annual expectation. Even with the presence of the humidor, Chase represents a significant boost for him from an offensive standpoint, strengthening Marte's odds of a third consecutive 20/20 campaign -- he's currently one of only five players to hit at least 20 homers and steal at least 20 bases in each of the past two years. In fact, in a typical year, 25/25 wouldn't be out of the question, and it's possible that's undercutting his stolen-base potential. Marte might not feel like a foundational fantasy piece, but in this era of declining steals totals, his numbers warrant it: He has been a top-30 performer on the Player Rater in each of the past two years, a locked-in draft candidate in the first 2-3 rounds. In points-based leagues, though, he has finished a more modest-yet-respectable 81st and 63rd in fantasy points in those seasons, so keep in mind that he's a little less valuable there.
