TORONTO (AP) -- Ted Lilly thought he was fortunate to get the

victory.

Lilly won for the first time in five starts, allowing one run on

six hits and a season-high five walks in six innings to help the

Toronto Blue Jays beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 on Friday night.

"I felt like I got away with one. I'm not so sure that I threw

the ball as well as my line might read," Lilly said.

The left-hander worked six innings for just the second time this

season, and Carlos Delgado hit a two-run homer in a four-run first

for the Blue Jays, who won their fourth straight.

"It definitely helped that we scored four runs in the first,"

he said.

Lilly (3-2), acquired from Oakland in the offseason, pitched a

complete game on April 26 against Minnesota, but hasn't gotten

through six innings in any other start.

He threw 103 pitches.

"We're going to have to find a way to get his pitch count

lower," Toronto manager Carlos Tosca said. "He's playing with

fire by taking 100 pitches into the sixth inning. It puts a lot of

pressure on the bullpen."

Rookie Jason Frasor pitched the ninth for his third save in

three chances as the Blue Jays improved to 13-13 at home after

starting the season 0-8.

Tosca said they're finally getting the breaks that didn't go

their way earlier this season.

The Rangers left nine men on base, including five in scoring

position.

"It's not really deflating. You always want to take advantage

of scoring opportunities, but we weren't able to do it," Texas

shortstop Michael Young said. "This group of guys doesn't seem to

dwell on negative things too much."

Rod Barajas homered and tied a career high with four RBI for

the Rangers, who were shut out by the Chicago White Sox in their

previous two games.

Barajas ended Texas' streak of 19 consecutive scoreless inning

with an sacrifice fly in the second.

He hit a three-run homer off Terry Adams in the eighth, cutting

Toronto's lead to 5-4.

Frank Menechino and Vernon Wells hit consecutive doubles in the

first before Delgado homered off R.A. Dickey (4-5). Alexis Rios

added an RBI single in the inning, his first RBI in the majors.

The Rangers loaded the bases with none out in the second, but

scored just once on the Barajas sacrifice fly. Lilly escaped the

jam as Young lined into an inning-ending double play

Josh Phelps gave Toronto a 5-1 lead in the third with an RBI

grounder.
