NY METS 7, FLORIDA 6

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- One day before participating in

baseball's Home Run Derby, David Wright hit a game-winning

homer.

Wright belted a three-run homer to cap a four-run eighth inning

as the New York Mets rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Florida

Marlins, earning a split in their four-game series.

Jose Valentin was walked by Logan Kensing (1-2) to open the

eighth and went to third when center fielder Reggie Abercrombie

lost a fly ball by Paul Lo Duca in the sun. Carlos Beltran

followed with an RBI single off the glove of shortstop Hanley

Ramirez, cutting the Mets' deficit to 5-4.

Wright then belted a 1-2 pitch over the left-center field wall

for his 20th home run of the season.

The 23-year-old Wright was voted as the starting third baseman

for the National League All-Star team and will participate in

baseball's annual home run contest on Monday night in

Pittsburgh.

Mets closer Billy Wagner surrendered a one-out homer to Miguel

Olivo that drew the Marlins within 7-6, but he struck out Joe

Borchard and Ramirez to end the contest and pick up his 18th

save.

Pedro Feliciano (2-2) struck out one in a scoreless eighth to

notch the win.

New York held a 3-0 lead until former Met Mike Jacobs hit a

two-run single in the sixth against Tom Glavine, who gave up his

NL All-Star spot to Milwaukee's Chris Capuano because he was

starting Sunday.

Abercrombie singled to open the seventh before right fielder

Xavier Nady made a diving catch to rob pinch hitter Olivo of an

extra-base hit. Nady, however, had trouble handling a double

off the wall by Borchard, and Abercrombie scored on the error,

tying the game at 3-3.

Chad Bradford relieved Glavine, who surrendered four runs -

three earned - and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings, and allowed an

RBI single by Ramirez.

Ramirez stole second, went to third on an errant throw by

catcher Lo Duca and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dan Uggla to

give Florida a 5-3 edge.
