News: 4 hours agoBrogdon and Robert Williams were traded to Portland by Boston on Sunday in exchange for Jrue Holiday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Spin: Brogdon's tumultuous offseason with Boston officially ends with a departure. Brogdon was nearly traded to the Clippers this summer as part of a package deal for Kristaps Porzingis, but the point guard's ongoing elbow issue forced Los Angeles out of the deal. It appeared the Celtics and Brogdon were both content moving forward with their partnership to start training camp, making the deal quite surprising. The Trail Blazers are excited about their current backcourt rotation, which is expected to be led by rookie first-round pick Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons, so the 30-year-old Brogdon profiles as a veteran backup. It's also possible Brogdon is dealt again, as he currently doesn't fit Portland's rebuilding roster and could help the Trail Blazers obtain more assets for the future.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Brogdon has had an action-packed year. He was traded from the Pacers, where he had started and averaged more than 20 PPG, to come off the bench for the Celtics. But he parlayed solid production off the bench into the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award, playing a key role for the Celtics before injuries felled him in the playoffs. This offseason, Brogdon was almost traded in a reported deal to the Clippers before the Celtics instead traded Marcus Smart. Entering this season, Brogdon is still expected to come off the bench behind point guard Derrick White but his minutes, and therefore his production, could go up as he absorbs some of Smart's role.
