News: 4 days agoDeRozan appears set to operate as the focal point of Denver's second unit this season, with head coach David Adelman planning to put the ball in the veteran forward's hands frequently, according to Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette.
Spin: The plan provides a strong indication that the Nuggets intend to keep their starting five intact while utilizing DeRozan as their primary offensive option off the bench. The 37-year-old has spent nearly his entire career as a starter, but his scoring and playmaking ability could give Denver a dependable offensive engine whenever Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are off the floor.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: DeRozan averaged more than 16 PPG for the 16th straight season with the Kings, before leaving this offseason to join the Nuggets. DeRozan is listed as a sixth man for the Nuggets, the primary backup at shooting guard and both forward slots. He may not get full starter minutes, but it should be close. DeRozan is a professional scorer, and he'll get to play off and be set up by the greatest passing big man in the NBA in Nikola Jokic. While his ceiling may be capped by his role, DeRozan's output will likely be similar to his norm if slightly attenuated in Denver.
