LA Clippers @ Dallas Mavericks
Clippers ride third-quarter surge, corral Mavs
DALLAS (AP) -- Elton Brand, Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley each
scored 21 points, and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Dallas
Mavericks 99-80 in a preseason game Sunday night.
Brand scored 13 points and Cassell added 12 in the third for the
Clippers, who outscored the Mavericks 37-17 in the third quarter to
erase an eight-point halftime deficit.
Doug Christie and Marquis Daniels each had 12 points for Dallas,
which shot just 39 percent from the floor.
Dirk Nowitzki, who rested in the fourth quarter, scored just 10
points on 2-of-11 shooting. Dallas center Erick Dampier (right hip)
and guard Jerry Stackhouse (right knee) missed the game.
The Clippers were without forward Corey Maggette (left
hamstring), guard Shaun Livingston (back) and center Chris Kaman
(left hand).
The Mavericks led 41-33 at halftime, but the Clippers were
14-of-20 from the floor in the third to take control of the game.
Brand gave Los Angeles the lead for good with a 3-point play.
Cassell followed with a pair of jumpers to cap a 13-0 spurt and put
Los Angeles ahead 51-45.
Brand closed the third with a dunk to put the Clippers up 70-58.
The Mavericks got no closer than eight points in the final
quarter. Rookie Daniel Ewing added 16 points for Los Angeles. Josh
Howard scored 10 points for Dallas. Dallas closed out the first
half with an 8-0 spurt to take its lead at the break.
