Lamar 63, Stephen F. Austin 60

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) -- Gil Goodrich scored 21 points and Blake

Whittle made a key basket late to lead Lamar to a 63-60 win over

Stephen F. Austin Wednesday night.

Blake Whittle, who finished with 17 points, scored the go-ahead

basket for Lamar (11-15, 5-8 Southland) on a layup after a steal by

Raymond Anthony at the 2:42 mark to make the score 58-57. Lamar led

61-60 with 10 seconds left before Whittle made two free throws to

secure the victory.

Lamar was ahead 38-26 at halftime, but trailed 57-56 with less

than four minutes remaining after Stephen F. Austin (16-8, 7-6)

opened the half with a 31-18 run.

Stephen F. Austin got 35 points, including seven 3-pointers and

12 rebounds from Antonio Burks.

Anthony had 15 points, three assists and three steals for Lamar.
