News: 3 days agoTaylor did not practice Saturday for personal reasons, Aaron Wilson of Houston Sports News reports.
Spin: Coach David Culley said Taylor's absence was excused, and that the 31-year-old will be back with the team Monday. Taylor's personal day gave rookie quarterback Davis Mills an opportunity to work with the first-team offense, while Jeff Driskel handled second-team reps. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson once again participated in camp activities but didn't handle any full-team work. Through the early days of training camp, Taylor has operated as Houston's clear top option at quarterback.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Taylor signed with the Texans during the offseason. The 32-year-old dual-threat QB has attempted only 121 passes over the past three seasons after losing starting gigs with the Browns and Chargers. Taylor has never appeared in a full 16-game regular season and his best fantasy finish was ninth in 2016. His game is built on minimizing turnovers (18 INTs on 1,357 attempts since 2015) and rushing (top-3 at QB in rushing yards each season from 2015-17), though it doesn't lead to much passing production, as he's never cleared 3,035 yards or 20 TDs through the air. Taylor will leap into the QB2 discussion only if he replaces Deshaun Watson (legal issues) in Houston.
