News: 6 days agoMayfield completed 12 of 25 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 22-14 win over the Saints.
Spin: Mayfield's performance was propped up by a 67-yard, catch-and-run touchdown by Laviska Shenault to begin the fourth quarter. Overall, though, Mayfield still completed under 50 percent of his passes for the second straight game. With starting wideouts DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson combining for just 16 yards through the air Sunday, Mayfield will strive to finally get the passing game clicking in Week 4 versus the Cardinals.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Mayfield was traded to Carolina and will take over as the team's starting QB after spending his first four NFL seasons in Cleveland. The 2018 first-overall pick has flashed at times (especially late in the 2020 season), but inconsistent play and a lack of rushing contributions (571 yards and 5 TDs in 60 games) has left him without a single top-15 fantasy campaign. Mayfield is aggressive (career 8.8 average depth of throw) and a potential breakout 2021 season was derailed by injury, so a sliver of hope remains for the 27-year-old. Mayfield's offensive line won't be as good in Carolina, but he does have a good group of targets led by DJ Moore, Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson. Mayfield is only worth drafting late in superflex leagues.
