News: 2 days agoMinshew underwent X-rays on his right thumb earlier this week that revealed multiple fractures and a sprained ligament, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Spin: According to the report, Minshew has been dealing with discomfort in his thumb since Oct. 11 against the Texans, but the Jaguars didn't know about the injury until this week. Minshew will have a Week 8 bye to aid his recovery, but Schefter notes that the Jaguars aren't certain Minshew will be available for the team's Week 9 rematch with the Texans on Nov. 8. Next up on the depth chart at quarterback are Mike Glennon and Jake Luton.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Minshew's ascent was one of the league's best stories of 2019, as the Washington State star quickly emerged from sixth-round draft pick to the Jaguars' starting quarterback. Minshew appeared in 14 games and tossed 21 touchdowns to only six interceptions. The efficiency wasn't great (61 C%, 7.0 YPA, 19% off-target rate), but Minshew made up some ground with his legs, ranking fifth among QBs with 344 rushing yards. Following the Nick Foles trade to Chicago, Minshew is allbut locked in as the 2020 Jaguars' starter. New offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's resume, combined with Jacksonville's shaky defense, suggests Minshew will be throwing plenty. That's enough to make him a QB2 and deep sleeper.
