ESPN Fantasy Projection: Smith is expected to miss the 2021 season. He had been set to enter his third NFL season and was finally positioned for a breakout following the offseason departure of Kyle Rudolph. Smith has thus far been limited to 91 targets in 29 regular season games (3.1 per game) and has yet to deliver a top-20 fantasy season. With Rudolph sidelined during the final four weeks of 2020, Smith posted a strong 15-183-3 receiving line and was TE4 in fantasy, though he was out-targeted 22-to-20 by Tyler Conklin. The 2019 second-round pick turned 23 in August, so he'll again be a breakout candidate in 2022.
