News: 3 days agoAllgeier is poised to begin the regular season splitting carries with Jeremiyah Love (ankle), whom Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports is progressing well in his recovery and trending toward being available for Week 1.

Spin: Love is expected to eventually take on the lead role after being drafted third overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, but the rookie is likely to be eased in as he recovers from a preseason ankle injury, if he's cleared at all to suit up against the Chargers in Week 1 on Sunday, Sept. 13. Allgeier has rushed for at least 514 yards in each of his four regular seasons, the last three of which were spent backing up Bijan Robinson, so the former Falcons running back figures to maintain some level of involvement even once Love is fully up to speed. James Conner (foot) is on IR with a designation to return, so Bam Knight is currently the only healthy alternative to Allgeier on the roster.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Allgeier signed with the Cardinals during free agency. The 2022 fifth-round NFL draft pick impressed as a rookie in Atlanta, totaling 1,174 yards on 226 touches, but he hasn't come close to those marks while playing second fiddle to Bijan Robinson over the past three seasons, and he has yet to produce a top-25 fantasy campaign. Allgeier did score eight touchdowns last season, but he remains a nonfactor as a receiver, never clearing 18 catches in a season. The 26-year-old will step into a similar role in Arizona, as the primary backup and change-of-pace option behind No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love. Same as in Atlanta, Allgeier has no standalone value, but he's a very good insurance stash.
