Fired up Marrone to go 'outside the box' with Jags

Doug Marrone said he's fired up about the rest of the Jaguars' season despite their 1-6 record, saying he's going to go "outside the box" with the team the rest of the season.

The Jaguars placed WR Dede Westbrook on IR with a left knee injury and activated DE Aaron Lynch from the exempt/commissioner permission list to the active roster. Lynch announced last week he was un-retiring and has gone through COVID-19 protocols. Westbrook was hurt on a kickoff return in Sunday's loss at the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Jaguars have now joined the 1968 Broncos and 1984 Vikings as the only teams in NFL history to allow 30-plus points in six consecutive games in a single season, Per ESPN Stats & Info.

The Jaguars rebounded from an awful start offensively (four consecutive three-and-outs to begin the game) and trail the Chargers 16-14 at the half. At one point the Chargers held a 154-14 edge in yardage but the Jaguars out-gained the Chargers 174-55 from that point, which includes James Robinson's two TDs (4-yard rush, 9-yard catch). Robinson is now tied with Pittsburgh WR Chase Claypool with the most scrimmage TDs among rookies (six).

The Jaguars are playing at LA Chargers today and they've never beaten the Chargers on the road (0-4). In fact, the Jaguars are 3-12 all-time in games played on the West Coast. They're 3-3 at Oakland, 0-2 at San Francisco, and 0-3 at Seattle. The Jaguars' 20-16 victory over the Raiders last season was their first on the West Coast since Jan. 2, 2005.

Sources: Jags RB Armstead still battling virus

Jaguars running back Ryquell Armstead is not expected to play again this season because of symptoms that he has suffered while battling COVID-19, league sources tell ESPN.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

Jaguars LB Myles Jack (ankle), TE Tyler Eifert (neck), S Jarrod Wilson (hamstring) are OUT for Sunday's game at the LA Chargers. RG A.J. Cann (shoulder) is questionable. Jaguars do get K Josh Lambo (hip) back, so he will be able to kick against the team that cut him in 2017.

LB Myles Jack (ankle), TE Tyler Eifert (neck), RG A.J. Cann (shoulder), S Jarrod Wilson (hamstring) did not practice for the Jaguars on Thursday.

DE Lynch ending retirement to rejoin Jaguars

Defensive end Aaron Lynch, who retired on Aug. 18 because of personal reasons, is unretiring and has been reinstated to the Jaguars' exempt list.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

The Jaguars have now given up at least 30 points in five consecutive games in a single season for the first time in franchise history. If they do it again next week against the Los Angeles Chargers they'll become just the third team in NFL history to give up 30 or more points in six consecutive games in a single season (Denver in 1968 and Minnesota in 1984), per ESPN Stats & Information.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

Jaguars TE Tyler Eifert is questionable to return with a neck injury. RG A.J. Cann is also questionable to return with a left shoulder injury.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

And with that 31-yard field goal by Jon Brown, the Jaguars become the first team since the 1970 merger to have a different player attempt a FG/PAT in five consecutive games. First time Brown has attempted a FG or PAT in a game -- ever. Was a soccer standout in high school and at UK, transferred to Louisville and did kickoffs, and never attempted a FG or PAT before today.
