Spin: Allen played the first period of Monday's contest before giving way to Nico Daws for the rest of the game. Unless the Devils bring in another netminder at some point during the 2026-27 season, Allen should receive the bulk of the starts for a team that is expected to return to the postseason after missing out in 2025-26.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Jacob Markstrom's struggles a season ago resulted in Allen appearing in 37 games for the Devils, almost certainly more than the team had hoped. He finished with a 17-17-2 record along with a 2.74 GAA and .903 save percentage. Markstrom was traded to Florida this offseason, but it's nearly impossible to believe that Allen -- who is now 36 years old and hasn't played more than 42 games in any of the past three years -- is the unquestioned answer for New Jersey. The most likely scenario is that he's part of a three-headed monster in goal featuring both Nico Daws and newcomer David Rittich. The committee figures to torpedo the fantasy value of all three men.
