News: 2 days agoMarkstrom will protect the road goal in Tuesday's preseason game versus the Hurricanes, Rob Darragh of the Panthers' official site reports.

Spin: Markstrom started Sunday and earned a win over the Hurricanes, stopping 21 of 24 shots. As a veteran player limited to two games of preseason action, this will presumably be Markstrom's last appearance until the regular season, which opens with another matchup against Carolina on Sept. 29.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Markstrom's second and final season in New Jersey ended up being his worst year in well over a decade. Appearing in just 44 games, Markstrom went 23-19-1 with a 3.07 GAA and .883 save percentage. Considering Markstrom's age (36), contract (two more years at $6 million per) and play this past season, it's amazing New Jersey could find a taker for his services, but they were able to trade him to Florida, the team that originally drafted the Swede back in 2008, in late June. Markstrom has a real chance to finish as a No. 1 fantasy netminder in 2026-27 given how loaded his new team is, although fellow newcomer Akira Schmid should also see a decent amount of playing time as the backup for the Panthers.
