A game that looked to be fizzling out as 10 men Slavia Prague, 2.12 xG, battled hard to wear a lacklustre Lens down, was suddenly thrown into utter chaos for the final eight minutes as Sturm’s second goal of the game, to retake the lead, was followed by injury time strikes from Thauvin and Aguilar, handing Lens, 1.77 xG, the unlikeliest of three points. That was less than two minutes after 20-year-old half-time substitute Konecny had been sensationally sent off for a last-man tackle on Sima in what was his first involvement in the game. A man down, Slavia Prague battled relentlessly to maintain their lead, but Lens got themselves level on 73 minutes, Sima turning home a deflected Edouard effort. And then came Sturm’s stunning 88th minute second, lashing home a loose ball from 20 yards, before 16-year-old Champions League debutant Mesloub curled a cross onto the head of Thauvin. A minute later, Aguilar had lashed a winner into the bottom corner and broken Czech hearts. A truly remarkable game of football, and one that Lens will feel very fortunate to have come away from victorious. Slavia Prague were excellent all game long.
