Brazil come from a goal down at half-time to beat Japan 2-1 in a thrilling World Cup last-32 tie. Sano profited from a sloppy pass, and some poor Casemiro defending, to fire Japan ahead just before the half-hour mark in Houston. Brazil offered very little in the first half but were a lot better in the second, which told when Casemiro - having earlier had an easy header saved off the line - powered his next header in at the back post. Vinicius Jr was denied a wonder goal by a fine Suzuki save against the post, but substitute Martinelli curled in a fine winner in the 96th minute after being played in by Guimaraes to snatch the win before extra time. Brazil ended the match with an xG of 1.72 to Japan's 0.23, with the Asian side made to pay for sitting back a little too much in the end.
