Commentary
France secure their spot in the quarter-finals with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Paraguay in Philadelphia. It was a heated contest at times, which wasn't helped by an incredibly poor performance from referee Tantashev, who failed to stamp down on some incredibly dirty tactics by the Paraguay players. France ultimately won't care, though, after coming out on top through another Mbappe penalty following Gomez's late challenge on Doue. The French captain then duly held his nerve to coolly slot the ball beyond Gill on 70 minutes, netting his 19th World Cup goal in as many appearances and his seventh of this tournament. Mbappe also nearly bagged a second deep into stoppage time when he was denied by two stunning Gill saves, taking the French's xG total to 1.36 across the 90 minutes. Paraguay, meanwhile, put up just 0.15 and recorded just one shot on target as they bow out of the tournament at the last-16 stage. France now look to a meeting with Morocco in Boston on Thursday after winning five consecutive matches at a single edition of the world Cup for the first time. That's all for this one, thanks for joining us!
FULL-TIME: PARAGUAY 0-1 FRANCE
Mbappe does brilliantly to win France another free-kick down the left after yet another late Caceres challenge. How that man hasn't been shown a card today beggars belief...

Now Olise is shown a yellow card for shoving Galarza to the ground. The latter certainly made the most of it, which is ironic considering the way he's carried himself at times in this match.
OH MY WORD!!! HOW HAS MBAPPE NOT SCORED?! France should have the game wrapped up as Olise finds Doue with a wonderful through ball. The latter then finds Mbappe, who fires a left-footed effort at goal from the edge of the box. Gill responds with a brilliant save, but the ball then falls back to Mbappe, who somehow fails to finish and Gill saves again. Incredible from the Paraguay goalkeeper, but that really should've been 2-0.
Paraguay deserve some credit for their defending across large portions, but some of their grubby tactics off the ball have been disgraceful. Once again Galarza is involved again as he strikes out at Kounde out of possession, and yet referee Tantashev fails to spot it.
