Faroe Islands shock Latvia to extend excellent start
The Faroe Islands recorded a first-ever victory over Latvia with a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win in Group B.
The Faroes started strongly and Sonni Nattestad opened the scoring after 19 minutes when he got on the end of Rene Joensen's corner and fired a left-footed shot past Andris Vanins.
Despite a much-improved Latvia performance after the break the Faroe Islands doubled their advantage in the 70th minute from a quick break as Hallur Hansson burst clear before finding Simun Edmundsson to finish smartly and send the visitors second in the group table.
