The New England Revolution beat the New York Red Bulls 1-0 in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Friday night to earn their first victory of the young Major League Soccer season.

Diego Fagundez knocked in the only goal on a controversial sequence that left New York players wondering why referee Mark Geiger hadn't stopped play when defender Kemar Lawrence went to ground because of an injury just ahead of the goal.

Play continued and Juan Agudelo found a wide-open Fagundez in front of Luis Robles' goal, and the Revs' No. 14 slotted home to give New England a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

New England's cause on the night was helped six minutes later when New York midfielder Felipe was shown a questionable red card for violent conduct for a tackle on Kelyn Rowe.

Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips missed a golden chance to equalize in the 81st minute, but Bobby Shuttleworth was able to get a boot on the close-range attempt to preserve New England's lead.

New England next hosts Toronto FC on April 9, and the Red Bulls play Sporting Kansas City in Harrison, New Jersey, on the same day.
