Boroff's 5 RBIs helps Troy rout No. 8 Florida in Gainesville Regional

Jabe Boroff hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs as Troy stunned No. 8-seeded Florida 10-2 on Monday at Condron Family Ballpark to win the Gainesville Regional and advance to the super regionals for the first time in program history.

Boroff, who went 3-for-4, also delivered a two-run double in a decisive sixth inning and capped his performance with the homer in the eighth. His five RBIs were a game high and helped eliminate the regional's top seed.

The Trojans (36-30) seized control early. Jimmy Janicki, who finished 2-for-4, started the scoring with a two-run double in the top of the first. Drew Nelson also contributed a key two-run single during a five-run sixth that broke the game open. Sean Darnell added an RBI on a bunt single and went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.

Troy's pitching staff limited Florida's potent offense. Starter Hayden Smith allowed just one earned run on three hits in four innings. Noah Thigpen was stellar in relief, tossing the final four innings while giving up one run and striking out four.

For Florida (41-21), Kyle Jones drove in both of the Gators' runs, going 2-for-4. Cade Kurland also had a multihit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Starter Cooper Walls lasted just one inning, surrendering two earned runs.

Troy took a 2-0 lead in the first and held it until the fifth, when Florida cut the deficit to 2-1. The Trojans responded with their five-run sixth to make it 7-1. Florida added a run in the seventh before Boroff's homer in the eighth capped the scoring.

Up next: The Trojans will host Little Rock in a best-of-three series beginning Friday in Troy, Alabama.
