Georgia Bulldogs vs Tennessee Lady Volunteers

Knight's 2-run homer sends Tennessee to Women's College World Series with win over Georgia
Sophia Knight's two-run home run in the second inning was all the offense Tennessee needed, as the Lady Volunteers punched their ticket to their 10th Women's College World Series with a 2-1 victory over Georgia on Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville. Tennessee clinched the NCAA softball tournament's Knoxville Super Regional in two games.
Knight, who went 1-for-4, provided the game's decisive blow. The Lady Volunteers also received a multihit performance from Ella Dodge, who finished 2-for-4. Gabby Leach added a double and scored on Knight's home run. The pitching was stellar, led by a dominant relief appearance from Sage Mardjetko. She tossed 5⅔ innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out nine and walking two. During her outing, Mardjetko recorded her 400th career strikeout. Starter Erin Nuwer pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings, giving up two hits.
Georgia mounted a late rally but fell just short. The Bulldogs' lone run came in the seventh when Emily Digby, who hit a leadoff triple, scored on a wild pitch. Digby finished 1-for-2. Sarah Gordon led the Bulldogs with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Randi Roelling was tough in the circle despite the loss, pitching a complete game. She allowed two runs on five hits, striking out six and walking two.
