BOX SCORE
DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) _ Ruben Mateo doubled and homered off Chris Carpenter and also singled Friday as the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2. Mateo hit .291 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs in 52 games. His impressive rookie season ended when he broke his right leg June 2, but now he's at full strength and manager Johnny Oates plans to make him a starter in right field. ``It's just a matter of time,'' Rangers manager Johnny Oates said. ``He's been getting better each ballgame. We've been saying for years, that all it takes is for him to get on the field.'' Texas starter Ryan Glynn allowed three hits in four scoreless innings. ``I felt good, but at some points in the game I lost command,'' said Glynn, likely the Rangers' No. 5 starter. ``I was able to refocus and take command.'' Carpenter gave up three runs and seven hits in five innings, striking out four and walking one. ``He wasn't quite as sharp as he has been,'' Toronto manager Buck Martinez said. ``But that's to be expected because he was so good his previous two outings. I'm still very pleased with his progress, and today is another step in the right direction.'' Mike Munoz, who got a save, allowed a two-run homer in the ninth to pinch-hitter Trenidad Hubbard's two run. Notes: The start of the game was delayed 28 minutes by rain. ... Rusty Greer missed his sixth straight game because of tightness in his left groin. ... Gabe Kapler missed his fifth straight due to a bone bruise on his right hand sustained last Sunday, when he was hit by a pitch.
