News: 1 day agoBetts drilled a home run off teammate Josiah Gray in Saturday's intrasquad game.
Spin: Betts' homer -- a shot into the bullpen in left field -- was his first in a Dodgers uniform. The 2018 American League MVP is expected to man right field on an everyday basis in his first campaign with Los Angeles this season.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: This is what a "down" year for Betts looks like: No. 20 on the Player Rater, No. 10 in fantasy points. Struggles squaring up the ball in April and May led to a sluggish start to 2019, but the 27-year-old star batted .323/.399/.588 over his final 80 games, with fantasy production in line with his best-in-rotisserie 2016 and 2018 campaigns. In the process, he upped his line-drive rate to an astonishing (and admittedly unsustainable) 35% during that same span, resulting in the majors' third-best expected wOBA. This is proof positive that when he's right, he's capable of being the No. 1 player in any fantasy baseball format. Betts' prospective managers might be scared off by his "off year," or by his move to the more pitching-oriented NL or into a pitching-friendly ballpark in Dodger Stadium. Don't be fooled! He's an unquestionable first-round pick in every league, with a real chance at reclaiming the No. 1 hitter spot.
