News: 2 days agoDozier (hand) returned to the Royals' summer-camp workout Thursday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Spin: Just one day after suffering a right hand contusion when he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday's intrasquad matchup, Dozier was back on the field to take live at-bats. Barring any setbacks, the issue shouldn't impact the 29-year-old's availability as he prepares for the start of the regular season.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: A rebuild allows a team to give second chances to players who previously showed little, in hopes that one or two of them will still work out. Dozier leapt at that opportunity in his age-27 season, hitting an impressive .279/.348/.522 in 139 games after entering the year with a .228/.279/.388 line over 110 contests. It did take a .339 BABIP to get there, though that's not an exceptionally high number, and Statcast suggests he overachieved by only a moderate amount, giving him a .261 xBA and a .471 xSLG. If Dozier regresses to those marks this season, he won't be a particularly interesting fantasy option, especially given that he will still have to fight against a tough home park and a mediocre lineup. However, he will at least be a capable cheaper option at either third base or in the outfield.
