News: 8 hours agoMurray has taken around two-thirds of the first-team snaps at training camp, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
Spin: Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell hasn't announced his timeline to name a Week 1 starter, but he is providing hints that Murray is a strong favorite over J.J. McCarthy, including earlier this week when O'Connell told reporters that Murray has "shown improvement every single day" during camp. Seifert's report notes that McCarthy has also shown progress, but not enough to truly challenge Murray in the supposed job battle.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Murray signed with the Vikings after spending his first seven seasons with the Cardinals. The change comes after a disappointing and injury-shortened 2025 season in which he failed to clear 18.3 fantasy points in any of his five appearances. Murray has settled in as an accurate but conservative passer and continues to add value with his legs (78-572-5 in 17 games in 2024). Prior to the 2025 dud, Murray had finished each of his first six NFL seasons as a top-12 fantasy QB (points per game). If he's able to beat out J.J. McCarthy for Minnesota's starting job, he'll have the luxury of working with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson. Add that to his rushing ability, and the 29-year-old certainly could find his way into the weekly QB1 mix. Consider Murray in the middle to late rounds.
