News: 3 days agoDarden brought in in his only target for three yards, returned a kickoff for 13 yards and ran back a punt for nine yards in the Buccaneers' 30-10 win over the Giants on Monday night.
Spin: Darden garnered active status once again with Antonio Brown (ankle) and Scotty Miller (toe) still sidelined, logging a total of 15 snaps between offense and special teams. The rookie has been serviceable on returns thus far with 230 total yards between kickoff and punt runbacks, so he could continue finding himself on the active roster even when Brown and Miller are available, the latter notably having been activated from injured reserve Tuesday.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: The Buccaneers selected Darden in the fourth round of April's draft. The North Texas product is tiny (5-foot-9, 174 pounds) but super athletic, fast and quick with good tackle-breaking ability. He aligned in the slot 87% of the time at North Texas. Granted, it was light competition in the Conference USA, but Darden really exploded in 2020, with a massive 38% target share (second in this class) and 4.4 YPRR (fourth) to go along with a 74-1,190-19 receiving line. Darden's lack of size and strength may limit his production in downfield and contested situations, but he has the athleticism to be an NFL playmaker as a slot WR and punt returner. Darden won't see the field much in 2021 with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown and perhaps Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson above him on the depth chart.
