News: 2 days agoJohnson left Monday's practice due to an unspecified issue, Dan Benton of USA Today reports.
Spin: Per the report, Johnson went down while blocking and appeared visibly frustrated as he headed toward the locker room. Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, coach John Harbaugh noted that the tight end collided with teammate Kayvon Thibodeaux, and at this stage he thinks that Johnson will be okay.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Johnson was a solid find by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, but he's headed for a reduced role this season following New York's signing of Isaiah Likely and Malik Nabers' return to health. The change comes after Johnson ranked top 12 among tight ends in both snaps and routes, but 23rd in catches and 19th in yards last season. Johnson was busy near the goal line (seven end zone targets), but struggled with drops (tight end-high nine), which led to a poor 63% catch rate. Johnson finished 23rd in fantasy PPG and now may be lucky to see a target or two per game. He's well off the fantasy radar.
