News: 5 days agoWilliams caught three passes on as many targets for 47 yards and turned two carries into four yards during the Packers' 20-17 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
Spin: Quarterback Jordan Love spread the ball around Sunday to eight different receivers, and Williams was one of five pass catchers to record at least three receptions. Williams finished fourth on the team in receiving yards, with two of his catches going for 27 and 20 yards in the first and second quarters, respectively. The second-year pro is cemented as the Packers' WR3 behind Christian Watson and Matthew Golden, and tight end Tucker Kraft also is in the mix for looks from Love. The Packers will head back to Lambeau Field and practice on a short week for Thursday night's game against the Panthers, whose defense ranks sixth in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (195.7) and fifth in passing touchdowns allowed (seven).
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Williams is primed for a larger role in his second NFL season. The 2025 third-round pick had a unique rookie campaign, handling more carries (11) than he did targets (10). Williams' gadget role allowed him only 90 snaps (12%) and he was utilized only near the line of scrimmage (1.4 aDOT). The Green Bay WR rotation no longer includes Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks, but Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and fellow second-year wideout Matthew Golden remain in the mix. Williams will need to beat out one (or perhaps two) of them and start to see more downfield targets in order to land on the fantasy radar. The 24-year-old is only worth late-round consideration in deeper formats, especially since he'll open the season on IR.
