The Seahawks list starting RB Alex Collins and backup Travis Homer as limited on Wednesday, but Pete Carroll said Collins feels "considerably better" after not playing Sunday and "has a chance to be really active in this game plan." Carroll said Rashaad Penny (full participant) made it out of the 49ers game OK and will play "a lot" Sunday at Houston after gaining 62 yards on 11 touches. It's TBD as to whether Adrian Peterson will be elevated from the practice squad again this week, per Carroll.

The Seahawks list 10 players as non-participants Wednesday. That includes Jamal Adams, who's having season-ending shoulder surgery, as well as fellow starting safety Quandre Diggs. Alex Collins was limited but feels "considerably better" after not playing Sunday, per Pete Carroll. Damien Lewis was a full participant after missing the 49ers game. DK Metcalf has gotten regular days off because of his lingering foot injury, so this may be another.

The 4-8 Seahawks in all likelihood weren't making the playoffs anyway, so losing Jamal Adams to season-ending shoulder surgery may not have much meaningful impact on the rest of 2021. The bigger deal: Adams has now suffered a torn left labrum two straight years, both requiring surgery, on top of several other injuries from 2020: his other shoulder, a groin that cost him four games, two fingers that needed surgery and an elbow. He'd been very healthy his first three years, missing only two games.

Seahawks safety Adams to miss rest of season

The Seahawks' Jamal Adams, who signed a $70 million extension in August that made him the NFL's highest-paid safety, will miss the rest of the season with a torn labrum.

Pete Carroll had no update Monday on SS Jamal Adams' shoulder injury. He said postgame it's a sprain to Adams' left shoulder, the one he had offseason surgery on to repair a torn labrum. Adams left in the second quarter Sunday and didn't return. LG Damien Lewis (shoulder, elbow), out the last two games, has a chance to practice Wednesday. Carroll is not as optimistic on RT Brandon Shell, who re-aggravated his shoulder injury. They'll rest him Wednesday and Thursday and see if he bounces back.

Rashaad Penny led Seahawks running backs with 62 scrimmage yards Sunday (on 11 touches) and with 29 offensive snaps. Pete Carroll said Penny looked "really good" while noting his 27-yard gain on a screen. He also had at least two nice blitz pickups. "We need him so badly to start lighting it up, and we think that he's got a chance to do that. Fortunately he made it back this week. He had a hamstring just two weeks ago and usually guys don't make it, but he toughed it out and got through it."

Carlos Dunlap was one of the Seahawks' defensive standouts Sunday despite playing only seven of 58 snaps. That was after a season-low four snaps last week, indicative of how his role has been significantly reduced. He said it's been frustrating and that as a "rhythm rusher," it's easier to get going with more opportunities. But he made the most of the situation against the 49ers with a safety — his first full sack of the season — and a batted-down pass on the 49ers' last drive to seal the win.

What's the Seahawks' goal at 4-8 with five games to play: "Keep winning," Pete Carroll said on 710 ESPN Seattle. "… We ain't dead yet." Not technically, anyway. Per ESPN's Football Power Index, their chances of making the playoffs are 2.5%, up from 1.2% before their win over the 49ers. They're one of eight NFC teams within two wins of the seventh playoff spot. Per FPI, they have the sixth-easiest remaining strength of schedule with games vs. Houston, the Rams, Chicago, Detroit and Arizona.

The Seahawks' 73-yard touchdown on a fake punt was one of several bold decisions they made Sunday. Pete Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle they were "just looking for ways to get a spark" at 3-8. Carroll gave Travis Homer the green light to call the fake punt from their own 27. They also attempted a 56-yard field goal, tried a double pass and went for it on fourth down instead of kicking a short FG. "This was the day we went for some stuff."

The 49ers had averaged 178 rushing yards in their last three games before the Seahawks held them to 71 and 2.8 per carry. Pete Carroll on 710 ESPN Seattle said one key was an adjustment they put in their game plan to play DT Al Woods on the strong side, knowing how much San Francisco likes to run there. "We had an exceptional day against the best running team in football here over the last month," Carroll said. "That was a big accomplishment." The 34-year-old Woods has had a strong season.

Russell Wilson played by far his best game since his return from finger surgery. He overthrew one deep shot but was otherwise much more accurate (30 of 37) compared to his last three games. He threw two TDs and should've had a third that was instead an INT due to Gerald Everett's bobble. Friday marked eight weeks post-op. That's how long he was told he may be out. "I feel great. Tonight was a huge night for us. Made some great plays. Ball came out of my hand great. Every throw felt confident."

The Seahawks lost the time-of-possession battle in each of their first 11 games and entered Sunday with by far the NFL's worst TOP margin at minus-11:57. That's why Pete Carroll jokingly asked for a moment of silence lasting 33 seconds, referring to their 33:12 TOP in their win over the 49ers. The Seahawks went a combined 7 of 17 on third and fourth down. Their longest drive was only 6:53 but they had 13 possessions and held the 49ers to 3 of 10 on third down while forcing three turnovers.

Seahawks SS Jamal Adams suffered a sprained shoulder Sunday, per Pete Carroll. It's the same left shoulder he had surgery on over the offseason to repair a torn labrum. Carroll didn't know the severity. Adams left in the second quarter. When he returned to the sideline in street clothes in the third, he shared an extended embrace with DB coach Andre Curtis. Carroll didn't have any prognosis on the injuries to RT Brandon Shell (shoulder), LG Kyle Fuller (ankle sprain) or DT Bryan Mone (knee).

Brady Henderson ESPN

Carlos Dunlap, who had a safety and the game-sealing pass breakup, on the Seahawks snapping their three-game losing streak with a 30-23 win: "It feels amazing. It feels amazing. We had a couple ugly losses here for a bit. So it feels good to get an ugly win." This certainly qualified as ugly: Seattle fumbled four times (losing two), committed three turnovers and mismanaged the clock. Turnovers hadn't been a problem for the Seahawks, who entered Sunday with a league-low seven in 11 games.

Peterson runs into top 10 of NFL's all-time TD list

Running back Adrian Peterson, released by the Titans earlier in the season and welcomed by the Seahawks last week, scored a touchdown Sunday and helped Seattle end a three-game losing streak with a win over the 49ers.

Brady Henderson ESPN

TE Gerald Everett was responsible for all three of the Seahawks' turnovers Sunday. He lost two fumbles and bobbled a would-be TD that resulted in an interception. "The one thing I told Gerald is I will always believe in him," Russell Wilson said. "He's a tremendous football player and he's been great for us all season." Per ESPN Stats & Info, the Seahawks became just the second team in the last 20 seasons to win a game in which they had two turnovers from the opponent's 5-yard-line and in.

Brady Henderson ESPN

It's 23-21 49ers after an eventful first half. The Seahawks' offense woke up after a blunder-filled start that included three fumbles (one lost) to score touchdowns on its last two possessions. Russell Wilson looked like Russell Wilson on those last two drives, capping the second one with a TD pass to rookie Dee Eskridge, the first of his career. Wilson is now 16-19 for 111 yards and a TD. Travis Homer's 73-yard TD on a fake punt was all the offense Seattle had until those last two drives.
