News: 2 days agoVasilevskiy stopped 20 of 24 shots in Thursday's 5-3 preseason loss to the Panthers. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Spin: This was more about routine than results, but it's not great the Vasilevskiy struggled against what was essentially the AHL Charlotte roster. Vasilevskiy allowed five goals on 37 shots over his two preseason outings. We'll next see him between the pipes when the Lightning open their regular season next Thursday at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Vasilevskiy won his second Vezina Trophy as the NHL's Best Goaltender a season ago. His 39 victories led the league, while Vasilevskiy's 2.31 GAA was second to Colorado's Scott Wedgewood. The Russian has posted a save percentage under .910 just once in a dozen years in the league. Set to play the entirety of next season at age 32, Vasilevskiy has shown zero signs of slowing down. With the stock of Connor Hellebuyck, the only other serious contender for the position at an all-time low, and Tampa Bay once again looking primed to make a run at the Stanley Cup, Vasilevskiy should be the first goaltender off the board in all fantasy drafts this coming fall.
