News: 3 days agoHughes (knee) was on the ice in the first practice session Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Spin: Hughes ended last season sidelined by an MCL sprain. He showed massive improvements in year three, posting 26 goals and 30 assists in 49 contests, which sets him up to be one of the biggest 2022-23 breakout candidates. The 21-year-old should see a significant role throughout the upcoming year.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Both the Devils and fantasy managers got the breakout they were hoping for from Hughes in his age-20 campaign, but injuries limited him to just 49 games. Hughes was borderline dominant when healthy, finishing the year with 26 goals and 56 points. His 14 power-play points were a new career high, as were his 165 shots on goal. Hughes' 15.8 shooting percentage seems likely to drop considerably this coming season, but his usage should be more than secure as New Jersey's top offensive weapon on what should theoretically be an improved team. This appears certain to be your last chance to get Hughes in fantasy drafts at anything remotely approaching a discount.
