News: 20 hours agoCampbell will start Monday's road preseason matchup versus Montreal, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.
Spin: While Campbell will get the start, offseason signing Petr Mrazek is also expected to see a share of the minutes as the duo battles for the starting job. At this point, fantasy players should expect a least a split share of the workload heading into the season, though that could change if either netminder puts together a strong run of play.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: An injury to starting goaltender Frederik Anderson led to Campbell earning more playing time last season than anyone could have imagined, and he responded well. He appeared in 22 regular-season games, posting a 17-3-2 record with a 2.15 GAA and .921 save percentage. Campbell was even better in Toronto's seven-game Round 1 playoff loss to Montreal, posting a 1.81 GAA and .934 save percentage. Andersen has left for Carolina, but the Leafs recently brought in Petr Mrazek, who could cut into Campbell's crease time and prevent him from becoming a bonafide No. 1 goaltender. That said, Campbell is a better option in leagues that allow daily lineup changes as opposed to weekly ones, and managers who roll with the 29-year-old may want to try to snag Mrazek for insurance, as well.
