News: 20 hours agoTalbot (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day and won't play in Saturday's preseason game versus the Canadiens, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Spin: With Talbot on the shelf, it wouldn't be surprising to see Kevin Mandolese start between the pipes against Montreal. Another update on Talbot's status should surface once he's cleared to return.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: After matching his career marks exactly with a 2.63 GAA and .915 save percentage for the Wild in 2020-21, Talbot regressed a bit the following season, posting a 2.76 GAA and .911 save percentage. That slight dip in form prompted Minnesota to acquire Marc-Andre Fleury at the trade deadline, and the Wild subsequently shipped Talbot to Ottawa in the offseason to clear the cap space to re-sign Fleury. Rather than being on the short end of a timeshare with Fleury, Talbot now profiles as the 1A to Anton Forsberg's 1B for the Senators. On the other hand, the 35-year-old netminder's likely to face significantly more scoring chances in Ottawa than he did in Minnesota, though the Senators seem poised to take a step forward compared to recent years thanks to a productive offseason and expected growth from their young core.
