Atlético Madrid bounced back from their heavy defeat against Arsenal with a 2-0 victory at Real Betis in LaLiga.

Diego Simeone's side were soundly beaten in the Champions League in north London last week after Arsenal scored four times in 14 second-half minutes at the Emirates.

However, on their return to domestic action, Atleti comfortably saw off Betis to secure back-to-back victories in the league and move up to fourth in the table.

The away side took the lead after just three minutes through Giuliano Simeone. Betis failed to clear their lines from a long throw-in, and when the ball dropped to Simeone on the edge of the penalty area, he unleashed a fine left-footed volley which flew past Pau López in the Betis goal.

It marked Simeone's third strike across all competitions this season.

Betis headed into Monday's fixture with just one defeat so far this term, but their opponents doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time with an impressive breakaway goal.

Atleti cleared Betis' free kick from inside their own area before Julián Álvarez scampered down the right-hand touchline.

His cross found Álex Baena on the opposing side of the box and he cut inside before driving an unstoppable shot into the top right-hand corner.

Simeone's side are now eight points back from early leaders Real Madrid, with Betis remaining in sixth place.
