St. Louis Cardinals @ Pittsburgh Pirates
Pirates beat Cardinals on Alex Presley's walk-off hit in 11th inning
PITTSBURGH -- Alex Presley hit a game-ending single off the glove of diving shortstop Pete Kozma with two outs in the 11th inning, lifting the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Presley's sharp grounder off Kevin Siegrist (0-1) deflected off Kozma's glove and into shallow center field, allowing Russell Martin to sprint all the way home from second base. With the win, the Pirates moved into first-place in the NL Central, at least briefly.
The Cardinals have lost a season-high five straight.
Vin Mazzaro (6-2) picked up the win as starter A.J. Burnett and five relievers held the Cardinals to just six hits. St. Louis has scored five runs in its last 47 innings.
Lance Lynn was dominant in six innings for the Cardinals but was long gone by the time Presley came through against Siegrist.
PIT wins 4-1
