News: 6 days agoJones recorded five receptions on seven targets for 83 yards in Saturday's 27-20 loss to the Chiefs.
Spin: Jones was doubled in targets by Christian Kirk, but he still managed to lead the Jaguars in receiving yards. His 37-yard reception early in the fourth quarter was the highlight of his performance, and it also marked Jones' seventh reception of 20 yards or more in his last nine games. Jones enjoyed his best season in the NFL in 2022, and he remains under contract with the Jaguars for the 2023 campaign. However, he is likely to lose some opportunity as the team welcomes Calvin Ridley (suspension) into its receiving corps.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Jones signed with Jacksonville after spending his first five NFL seasons with Buffalo and Las Vegas. The 2017 second-round pick didn't work out with the Bills and was a backup for most of his first 2 1/2 seasons with the Raiders, but he emerged as one of Derek Carr's top targets after last season's Week 8 bye. From that point on, Jones averaged 6.3 targets per game while working primarily as a vertical threat (11th-highest average depth of target). The usage didn't allow much production (43.1 yards per game and zero TDs) and Jones remains without a top-30 fantasy campaign for his career. The 27-year-old will compete for a starting gig in Jacksonville, but he's a long shot for a big enough role to allow consistent fantasy production. He belongs on waivers.
