News: 3 days agoMarner added nine pounds of muscle over the summer, reports Sportsnet.ca, and has impressed his coach and teammates both on and off the ice.

Spin: Marner has jumped from 172 to 181 pounds through eating healthier and emphasizing muscle-building nutrition, and it hasn't slowed him down at all. "He's looking good in battles, for sure. I noticed that right away from the start when I got here," said teammate William Nylander. Coach Sheldon Keefe added, "Certainly doesn't look like a guy who's resting on what he accomplished last season. He's looking to build on it." Marner delivered a career-high 97 points in 2021-22 after failing to record a goal in the first eight games. He could easily top the century mark with a quick start.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Marner has averaged well over a point-per-game each of the past four years, but last season was by far his best to date. Marner's 35 goals, 97 points, and plus-23 rating were all career-best marks. Marner famously didn't scored a single goal with the man advantage in 2020-21 but was able to pot a half dozen power-play tallies last year. One minor cause for concern was the fact Marner's 15.6 shooting percentage was considerably higher than any of his first five NHL seasons. Some regression is likely on the way, perhaps leaving Marner closer to the 30-goal plateau as opposed to 35, but Marner should be worth a late first-round fantasy pick regardless as an ascending 25-year-old player on one of the NHL's better teams.
