Parker, Tolliver lead streaking Sparks past Stars, 74-61
SAN ANTONIO -- Candace Parker scored 15 points, Kristi Toliver made three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and the Los Angeles Sparks beat the San Antonio Stars 74-61 on Saturday night to improve to 7-0.
The Sparks are off to their best start since opening 9-0 in 2003. The Stars (1-5) have lost two straight.
Parker scored 10 points to help the Sparks build a 33-26 halftime lead. Essence Carson scored five of her 13 points, including a 25-foot 3-pointer, during the Sparks' 12-6 spurt to open the third quarter that made it 45-32.
Kayla McBride and Moriah Jefferson scored four points apiece as part of an 11-2 run to pull the Stars to 47-43 with 1:36 left in the third quarter. Alana Beard and Toliver answered with back-to-back 3s and the Sparks pulled away in the fourth quarter. Beard finished with 12 points.
Jefferson led the Stars with 18 points, and McBride had 13.
