Loyd powers decisive 3rd quarter run, Storm beat Sun 93-81
SEATTLE -- Jewell Loyd scored 11 of her 26 points during a decisive third-quarter run and hit a critical 3-pointer late in the fourth to help the Seattle Storm beat the Connecticut Sun 93-81 on Saturday night.
Crystal Langhorne added a season-high 18 points, on 8-of-8 shooting, while Sue Bird scored 14. Alysha Clark and Breanna Stewart had 11 points apiece for the Storm (2-3).
Loyd hit the last of her three 3-pointers to push the lead to 83-74 with 3:54 to play and Seattle led by at least seven the rest of the way.
Seattle scored 31 points in the third en route to its highest scoring output since a 96-86 overtime win against Washington on June 18, 2013.
Jasmine Thomas led the Sun (1-4) with 17 points.
Loyd hit a pull-up jumper and then converted a three-point play to spark a 21-2 run that gave Seattle a 60-41 lead with 4:21 left in the third quarter. The Storm made 18 of 28 (64.3 percent) second-half field-goal attempts and led by as many as 20 points.
