Lynx beat Mystics, tie own record for best start in league history
WASHINGTON -- Seimone Augustus scored 21 points to help the Minnesota Lynx tie their own WNBA record for best start in league history with an 83-76 win over the Washington Mystics on Saturday.
Minnesota (10-0) matched the 2012 team that also won its first 10 games to set the league record.
Augustus, who missed the last game after suffering a bruise to her head Tuesday, was 10-for-18 from the field, and the Lynx, tops in the AP WNBA power poll, shot 49 percent. Sylvia Fowles scored 18 points, and Maya Moore added 15 points with seven rebounds and five assists. The Lynx were missing Lindsay Whalen, who went home to Minnesota for her brother's wedding.
The Lynx were playing the second half of back-to-back contests. They routed the Dream in Atlanta on Friday night.
The Mystics (4-7), eighth in the poll, were led by Emma Meesseman with 19 points and seven rebounds. Ivory Latta had 13 points, and Tayler Hill added 12.
Washington led at halftime 47-45 but went cold in the third quarter while the Lynx dominated, outscoring the Mystics 23-8 in the period -- including a 17-point run to take control. The Mystics cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter -- drawing to within six with 25.9 seconds left on Bria Hartley's running layup -- but Washington was forced to foul and ran out of time.
