Mystics beat Fever after 2nd-half delay because of leak
WASHINGTON -- Krystal Thomas had 20 points and 14 rebounds, and the Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 100-80 on Saturday night in a game that was delayed 48 minutes to start the second half because of water on the court.
The Mystics (16-10) were up by 13 at the half before the game was delayed because of a leak in the Verizon Center roof. It was the second time in two weeks that there was water on the court because of a leak. The Mystics were supposed to play the Connecticut Sun on July 28, but that game was called about 50 minutes after the 7 p.m. scheduled start because of water on the floor. That game will be made up on Aug. 29.
On Saturday, Verizon Center workers put a yellow tarp above the court to contain the leak and the second half began late. The teams entertained themselves and the fans during part of the delay by having a dance contest.
Candice Dupree led Indiana with 26 points. The Fever (9-19) were missing guards Briann January and Tiffany Mitchell, who were both out with knee injuries.
