MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers go for their fourth victory in five games Thursday night when they meet the Montreal Expos in the finale of their three-game series.
Darren Dreifort was the latest Dodgers' starter to pitch effectively. Dreifort took a perfect game into the sixth inning and retired the first 17 batters Wednesday en route to a 7-2 win over the Expos. Gagne, who grew up in Montreal, will make his ninth start of the season and his first career appearance against his hometown team. A graduate of Polyvalente Montpetit High school in Montreal, the 25-year-old righthander has allowed three earned runs or less in 22 of his 32 career starts. He lost his last start last Friday against Atlanta when he surrendered four runs over 6 1-3 innings in a 5-1 loss. Gagne is just the second native of Quebec to start at Olympic Stadium, following in the footsteps of Denis Boucher in 1993. He also will be the first hometown pitcher to face the Expos in Montreal since May 16, 1969 when Claude Raymond pitched in relief for the Braves for the win. Tony Armas (2-5, 4.06) will start for the Expos. It is his first career appearance against the Dodgers. Armas dropped his first four starts of the season but has won two of his last three outings. In his last start on Saturday, he allowed four runs and five hits and struck out seven over six innings in defeating Colorado, 8-4.
