PARIS -- Ethiopia's Tadesse Tola and Atsede Bayisa won the Paris Marathon on Sunday.
Tola finished the men's race in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 41 seconds while defending champion Bayisa dominated the women's race in 2:22:04, breaking the race record of 2:23:05 set in 2002 by Marleen Renders of Belgium.
Tola pulled away from Alfred Kering of Kenya on the uphill section with less than 3 miles to go. Kering held off a late charge from compatriot Wilson Kipsang to take second place, 30 seconds behind Tola.
Bayisa took control of the women's race after 18 miles.
Christelle Daunay of France overtook a tiring Tsegaye Tirfi in the final miles to finish second, 2:18 behind Bayisa.
