Cleveland finally has something to celebrate.

No, LeBron James and the Cavs haven't made history yet. But Katie Spotz has. The 23-year-old, who grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, recently became the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

While studying in Australia, "I was just chatting on a bus with the person next to me and he mentioned that his friend rowed across the Atlantic Ocean," Spotz said. "Fast forward two years later and I'm taking the trip."

The feat took just over two months and covered some 2,800 miles. Spotz, who teamed with Blue Planet Run foundation along with several sponsors, departed Senegal on Jan. 3 and landed in Guyana on March 14, making her also the only American to row solo from Africa to South America.

"My goal was to raise awareness and funds for clean drinking water," Spotz said. "As a result of my trip, 3,000 people will have clean drinking water for life."

It was a grueling adventure though. Spotz rowed for 10-12 hours a day in two-hour shifts. She battled sleep deprivation and physical fatigue, but says the mental challenges were the most difficult. There were some days where she would've given anything to be back on dry land. But Spotz came prepared for the solitude with four loaded iPods and about 100 audio books.

This feat wasn't the first for Spotz. She became the only person to ever swim the 325-mile length of the Allegheny River in 2008. She's also cycled 3,300 miles across the United States and run 150 miles across the Colorado and Mojave deserts. So what's next for the young adventurer?

"I want to challenge myself again and again and again," Spotz said. "I'm curious. Once I complete one thing, I want to see if I can do the next."
